Functions of Water Filter Fabric

Permanent Geotextiles and Biodegradable Erosion Control

Water filter fabrics are one of many names for geotextiles, coir blankets, and additional biodegradable matting. Often called geonets, geogrids, or geosynthetics, these fabrics help stabilize the surrounding environment and filter sediment out of water. Geotextile fabrics have been used in a range of locations including use for hillside stabilization, vegetative growth, and soil separation. Browse the options below to determine the best option for your location.

Woven vs Nonwoven Geotextiles

Nonwoven Geotextiles

Nonwoven Geotextiles feature felt-like fabric made by meshing fabric fibers together in a needle-punch technique to create a thick, compressed material.

Lightweight Nonwoven
3 oz. - 5 oz.
Medium Weight Nonwoven
6 oz. - 8 oz.
Heavy Weight Nonwoven
10 oz. - 16 oz.

Biodegradable Geotextiles

When dealing with vegetation or environmentally-friendly erosion control, biodegradable mats are the best choice. Organic geotextiles have a temporary life that is great for planting vegetation. Over time, the materials will biodegrade while vegetation and other materials to take root. Temporary biodegradable textiles last around 6-9 months, while semi-permanent models can last anywhere from 4-6 years.
