Permeable Silt Curtains

Triton permeable silt curtains are specifically designed for silt and turbidity control in areas with fast water, waves, or demanding conditions. Permeable turbidity curtains (also known as silt curtain or silt barriers) feature a geotextile geotextile silt curtain filter skirt or window to allow faster water flow through the barrier while still containing silt and turbid water. This reduces the pressure put on the silt screen by allowing water to continue flowing through the curtain while filtering silt and giving it time to settle. All Triton silt barriers are made in the USA.

Triton permeable silt curtains feature a top flotation device, impermeable PVC fabric, and bottom skirt with geotextile fabric panels.

Permeable Curtain Fabric and Components

floating silt screen

When using silt screens in salt water, special consideration should be given to the tension cables and connectors. While standard barriers come with galvanized steel components, stainless steel or zinc anode additions are recommended for salt water or corrosive environments. These additions will help prevent corrosion and increase the life span and performance of your permeable silt barrier. Alternative fabrics are also available for extended deployment in areas with high pH levels, high or low temperatures or in areas where chemicals are present.

Permeable Geo Curtains vs. Type 2 and 3 Curtains

Permeable turbidity curtains are typically offered in two different models: Type 1 Geo Curtain and a Type 2/3 Permeable Curtain. While standard differences exist between the various models (bottom cable, tension cable), the main difference lies in the fabric and construction.

Type 1 Geo Curtain

type 1 geo curtainThe Type 1 Geo Curtain is unlike any of our other floating turbidity curtains. While most permeable models feature a geo panel within the skirt, Type 1 Geo Curtains feature a construction that is made entirely of 8 oz. filter fabric. This increases the curtain's ability to filter and is ideal for areas with low flows and temporary containment requirements. Geo curtains have are commonly used in:

  • Ditches
  • Canals
  • Shallow Streams
  • Low Flow Areas

When to use a Permeable Silt Curtain

Permeable Silt and Turbidity Curtains are most commonly used in areas where permeability is required either due project requirements, high currents or extreme pressure. The bottom filter panel reduces pressure on the curtain by allowing water to flow through at a faster rate, while still containing silt.
