Coconut Coir Logs Specifications
Specifications for Coir Fiber Logs, Silt Checks, & Wattles
GEI Works offers erosion control products made from durable, environmentally-safe coconut fiber that are easy to install and maintain. Once placed, coir fiber logs, silt checks, and wattles slowly biodegrade over time, supporting the existing environment and encouraging deep root growth.
Depending on the site scope and project goal, a silt check or wattle may be required in place of or alongside erosion control logs.

Coir Fiber Log Installation
Typically, coir log installation involves a process of trenching and staking. After the project has been cleared of debris and other obstructions, a small trench can be dug for placement of the logs. Each log can then be placed inside the trench and staked. Spacing for the stakes will vary depending on your location and water flows. Typical staking placement is as follows:
|Stream||Flow||Diameter||Anchor Height||Anchor Spacing|
|Large||Heavy||20 in.||4 ft. Min||Every 2 ft.|
|Large||Moderate||16 in.||3 ft. Min||Every 2.5 ft.|
|Medium||Moderate||12 in.||30 in. Min||Every 3 ft.|
|Medium||Low||12 in.||30 in. Min||Every 3.5 ft.|

Silt Checks are a similar GEI Works product with the goal of sediment control and erosion solutions. Silt checks are small biodegradable filters designed for in streams, channels, and drainage ditches. Working to both filter silt and stabilize streams, silt checks feature a top wattle surrounded by coir matting/skirts on either side. The coir matting stabilizes the site while simultaneously filtering and controlling silt.
Silt Checks are a great way to filter runoff prior to collection in basins or drainage off of a site.
