Biodegradable Landscape Stakes
For Erosion Control Blanket Installation
GEI Works offers biodegradable landscape stakes as an environmentally-friendly option to secure erosion control matting, wattles, and other erosion control products. Whether during stabilization, construction, and restoration projects, biodegradable stakes save time and manpower. They don't need to be removed at the end of job, but simply disintegrate and feed the plants and grass in the area.
Compliant to ASTM D6954 regulations, these biodegradable landscape stakes are made from recycled plastics with an added polymer that allows the dissolution process. After 24 to 36 months, the stakes fall apart. Only water, carbon dioxide, and biomass are left after microbes consume the plastic.
Stakes come in three sizes – 4", 6", and 8". The alternating rib design and double hooks grab at dirt and soil to stay solidly in place. For tougher, possibly frozen ground conditions, the 4" biodegradable stakes are excellent tools. Softer, tilled soils need longer stakes (6" or 8") to reach the harder soils underneath.

Biodegradable Net Peg
The net peg is a lighter alternative to biodegradable landscape stakes. Using an anchor design, it secures turf netting and weed fabric to soft or tilled soils. The life span for the 3.5" net peg is 12 to 24 months. Just as the stakes, it is ASTM D6954 compliant for biodegradable plastics. The net peg is the most economical choice for light biodegradable erosion control matting.
Stake or Staple Driver
Instead of time-consuming hammering, GEI Works offers installation tools to easily secure erosion control matting with stakes or staples. While the staple driver uses 11 gauge steel staples, the stake driver is specifically designed to use the 4" or 6" biodegradable landscape stakes. The jam-free, single-load system installs stakes every 3-5 seconds. The jobs get done quicker, and workers are more productive and less fatigued.
Applications for Biodegradable Landscape Stakes
These stakes and pegs work for a variety of erosion control products. Whether restoring a streambank or stabilizing a hillside, something needs to hold the erosion control matting in place. The biodegradable stakes function well with the following products:
