Coir Log Use when Wet
Question about a Wet Coir Log. Can a coir log be used even if it's wet?
Answer:
Thank you for contacting Granite Environmental with your inquiry. We are happy to help. In a word, yes, coir log can be used when wet, like the wet coir log referred to above. In fact, it's in their nature to be wet. A common application of the log is at a shore line.
Coconut Coir Logs are strong and flexible. These BioD-Roll™ coir logs are compact coir cores which form a Coir Web for superior filtration, covered by exterior coir mesh netting. They aid in the stabilization and re-vegetation of sites where you encounter steep slopes or exposure to waves along or currents which cause instability on a site.
The coir rolls are designed to help them to withstand wave impact and stormwater sheetflow forces without deformation or loss of material ensuring maximum erosion prevention. In flowing water areas, the coir logs are placed directly on the bank, often retaining fill material or securing new channel alignment. In standing water, the coir logs are placed offshore to break waves and encourage sedimentation and re-vegetation.
Installation of Coir Logs
While the coir logs can be successfully used while they are wet, it is typically recommended that logs be installed dry. When dry, these coir rolls are easier to handle and can be quickly installed to a location. Using dry log also makes the unit easier to arrange, easier to carry, and faster to place along designated areas.
So, as you can see, coconut coir products are definitely friends with water, as they work together to accomplish a variety of tasks.
