Water Filter Fabrics, Geotextiles, and Biodegradable Fabrics

Water Filter Fabrics are one of many names for products known as geotextiles or biodegradable matting. Often called geonets, geogrids, or geosnythetics, these fabrics help stabilize the surrounding environment and filter sediment out of water. Geotextile fabrics have been used in a range of locations including use for hillside stabilization, vegetative growth, and soil stabilization. Please few the information below to determine the best option for your location.

Woven vs Nonwoven?

Nonwoven
Nonwoven material is a felt like fabric made by meshing fabric fibers together to creat a thick, compressed material.

Woven
Woven Geotextiles features fibres weaved in and out to create a tight strong material.
woven geotextile
  • Reinforcement
  • Filtration
  • Stabilize for unpaved roads
  • Controls sediment runoff
  • Stronger then non-woven: Can handle more pressure on top on it
  • Separation of Aggregates
  • Gardens: Suppresses weeds
  • Railroad Construction
  • Support Under Seawalls
  • Rip rap
  • Shoreline Erosion control
  • Underwater drainage
  • 200lbs=lightest to handle
  • 315lbs=Strongest, can hold the most pressure
200lbs Additional Uses:
  • Highway applications
  • Separation of firm soil

Biodegradable Geotextiles

When dealing with vegetation or just looking for a geotextile that will coexist better with the environment, biodegradable mats are the best choice. Organic geotextiles have a temporary life that is great for planting vegetation. Over time, the materials will biodegade to allow vegetation and other materials to take root. Temporary biodegradable textiles last around 6-9 months, while semi-permanent models can last anywhere from 4-6 years.
