Question on a sediment bag for dam removal excavation. I was wondering if I could get some information for a sediment bag for a dam removal excavation. We will be dewatering an area of about 2 acres.

During the excavation of a dam, dewatering is often a requirement for the displaced sediment and debris that occurs as a result of a excavation process. This sediment-filled water can be pumped into bags to help remove the sediment and keep water levels clean.
Standard Dewatering Bags
A standard sediment bag is constructed using a heavy-duty nonwoven materials. This needle-punches filter fabric provides a high level of permittivity, allowing water to flow freely through the bag, will preventing fine soils from piping through. When used with dam removal excavation, these bags are often used with a discharge pump/hose that pumps water into the bag for filtering.
Our standard dewatering bag sizing options include:
- 6 ft. x 6 ft.
- 15 ft. x 10 ft.
- 15 ft. x 15 ft.
- 15 ft. x 20 ft.
- 15 ft. x 25 ft.
Choosing the correct size for your location is based on several factors including the following: volume of water being pumped (pump flow rate), quantity and type of sediment and the permittivity of the given bag size.
Additional Dewatering Options
In addition to the sediment bag for dam removal excavation, you might also consider the use of a large Dewatering Tube. When compared to a sediment filter bag, these dewatering tubes are significantly larger in size. This has allowed them to be used for larger projects including dam excavation. In particular, since you have mentioned that the dewatering size is 2 acres, this tube may be a good option for you.
Dewatering tubes can be made in lengths as large as 200 feet in length and 90 feet in circumference.
