Debris Boom Options
Question: Looking for a debris boom. I need about 80' of either heavy duty HDPE log & debris boom or a floating boom. What are my options? How do I determine which boom is best?
Answer:
Thank you for contacting us! If you are looking for a debris boom and floating trash boom options, you've come to the right place! In general, debris boom options can include styles anywhere from a floating boom and net to a large steel barrier system. Determining the right options for your location depends on a lot of different factors.
In general, the following items should be considered when determining the right model:
- Type of Debris Being Contained: Different debris booms are often better equipped than others to handle specific items or containment requirements.
Logs & Timbers: Larger objects such as logs and timbers are often contained using booms such the HDPE model or the Steel Trashmesh Model. These barrier feature stronger steel or poly plates for containing heavier items.
Trash and Debris: Small items are often contained by a standard floating barrier. This will include a top flotation device and lower skirt to keep items from flowing to a certain area.
Water Conditions: Similarly, water conditions can play a huge factor in the type of boom you can use or the sizing of the boom. Areas with a higher flow of water might require more durable options (such as the ice boom shown right), while low flow areas can use almost any model.
- Style: Barrier may also be chosen based on style and appearance. HDPE booms are a little larger and contain orange flotation devices. Floating barriers, by contrast, may only sit on the surface of the water.
When looking for a debris boom, please be sure to take these factors into consideration, as they can often play a large roll in how the boom is chosen and/or how it is anchored. Please feel free to contact us to help determine the right boom for your location.
