How Are In-Water End Anchors Typically Handled?

by Granite Environmental Tech Team
(Florida, USA)

Our tech team received the question "How are in-water end anchors typically handled?". The customer wanted to place a 15 foot type 3 curtain in an area with 0.5 ft/sec velocity or less. Th water bottom was relatively soft so they assumed that the anchors are likely to dig in easily. The project was located in a relatively sheltered arm of a reservoir so wave loading was negligible.

Our tech team suggested to place the in-water end anchors every 50 feet on center.

The fluke style anchors normally dig in and provide a load carrying capability of 2-2500 pounds if set correctly.

An additional holding power can be achieved in general by a scope of 5:1 or 8:1 (increasing the rode length) or with large anchors or anchoring every 33 feet.

Items also to consider are waves and wind in any loading computation.

Take a look at this link for anchor systems we offer marine anchor system for barriers
