Farm Road Geotextile Fabric
Ashburn, Virginia
I am looking for geotextile fabric for farm road. In doing some major "renovations" it would make sense to put in geotextile fabric to prevent losing more gravel into the red dirt. Backhoes and Large dump trucks, and forestry trucks will be using the road. Which fabric would you recommend? Am I correct in thinking I should put 6 inches of gravel on it? This is a mud farm road, no asphalt and our main goal is to prevent a large truck from destroying the road and to prevent the loss of gravel into the road.
Thanks for contacting Granite Environmental! I'd be happy to give you some geotextile fabric recommendations. We have both woven and nonwoven geotextiles.
I think the nonwoven GT110 is a good place to start. It stabilizes as well as filters, offering strength and drainage. It has a weight of 10.0 (339) oz/yd2 and we have other weights available as well. Depending on the make up of the soil, you may want a heavier or lighter fabric. They all have various weights and tensile strengths.
The Roll Dimensions (W x L) - ft are 12.5 x 360/15 x 300 and there area 500 Square Yards per Roll.
6 Inches of gravel on top of the geotextile fabric will do just fine.
