Floating Debris Boom For Trapezoidal Channel

(USA)

I am looking for info on a floating debris boom for a trapezoidal channel. I am interested in a skirt attached to the boom as well.

The floating debris is mostly floating and neutrally buoyant trash, household trash and floating organics, along with some woody material. We are designing two trash collection structures to capture trash. Just concepts at present. A 10 bottom width with 2:1 side slopes in a grass lined channel, approx 6 ft depth.

I should also mention that the channel is normally dry. Flood events would have to lift the boom.

I was thinking about an open weave material to allow flood flows to pass. In this use the only time the boom would operate and capture is during a runoff event. We want a boom that does not restrict the flow and cause backwater issues but captures floating debris. The city/county will maintain. The channel is a flood drainage channel and normally dry.

We don't expect to capture 100%. But floating stuff and some neutrally buoyant stuff would be good.

The net boom looks like what we need. Any experience using this in trapezoidal channels?

Does the floating debris boom have a net/skirt attached to the boom?

Granite Environmental Tech Team: Our heavy duty Perma Boom works very well and is durable as well as our standard debris boom.

We do not recommend a net unless you want one.

The debris boom has a skirt that hangs into the water from 12 - 48 inches depending on the product

We would recommend one end be disconnected during floods or risk the loss of the boom.

If you leave the floating debris boom in place it could cause localized flooding if it collects a lot of material. That is if it cannot be maintained during that time

You can have a boom that will capture the debris but you need to determine what the objective is, for example if it is day to day capture for sheet flow events that are not flood. A determination needs to be made on how much debris, volume, size and then what surface area can handle that if a net is used, without restricting flow.

All floating debris and trash would be found through the water column so a net would be the best approach then.
We can mount a net on any of our products. The net boom can be shaped to accommodate, so narrower on the bottom.
