Do you have Debris Booms for
Use in River Storm Cleanup?

Question about a debris boom for River storm cleanup. We are trying to replace debris boom used with river storm cleanup in the Potomoc. It needs to be able to trap wood, glass, and plastics (mainly) for recovery and removal. The river speed is mostly fast moving, but slow in some sections of Anacostia River, which joins Potomoc. Can you tell me which barrier would work best?

Answer:

debris boom for golf courseGreetings! Thank you for contacting Granite Environmental. We can help you with your containment requirements. To check out all your options for the debris boom for river storm cleanup, please feel free to check out our Debris Boom Overview Page. Here you will see several different models we offer including an HDPE booms, a steel trashmesh boom, and a standard PVC barrier.

To help us determine the best barrier option for your location, it would be necessary that we have some additional information including the following:

  • Water Flow: The rate at which the water is flowing in your area.
  • Waves: This should include wave heights and frequency.
  • Tides: Are they present?
  • Winds: Including how fast and in what direction.

Areas with increased water flows, frequent waves, or the other demanding factors may require barriers that are higher in strength or made from thicker fabrics.

Floating Boom Deployment and Recovery

Regardless of which barrier option you choose, these booms are easy to deploy from the shore or small work boat where floating litter, aquatic plants and trash can be collected at the shore line. This material can be readily recovered by the storm water or public works departments after storm events. This economical containment boom design is suitable to contain small timbers, styrofoam, litter and aquatic plants and is the work horse of our debris boom family.

A 12" skirt is best for any floatable recovery and it sounds like what you are trying to recover would all be floating. If you would like to further discuss options for a debris boom for river storm cleanup, please feel free to give us a call. Our team is always more than happy to work with you to determine the best option for your location.
