Coir Erosion Control Mats (RECPs) are some of the strongest and longest lasting erosion control products on the market today. Also known as Erosion Control Blankets (ECBs), coir mats work to increase soil stabilization, decrease erosion and allow vegetation to effectively take root. Coir geotextiles are made from a natural and biodegradable coconut fiber. Coir erosion mats are the perfect option for environmentally sensitive, steep slopes, or climates where shade or cold temeratures increase seed germination time.

Coir Mats (RECPs) are a natural way to control erosion in areas with either temporary or long-term erosion control needs. Designed to offer a environmentally sensitive solution to erosion control, each product is designed to biodegrade over a specific period of time. As the matting degrades, the erosion blanket will work to enrich the surrounding environment and contribute to extended vegetative growth.
Semi-Permanent Coir Erosion Control
Typical Lifespan: 4-6 years
Some of the most commonly used coir matting models are those designed as an open weave or geotextile style mat. Offering a higher strength design, these erosion control mats are able to accommodate areas with steep slopes or increased water flow.

Semi-Temporary Control Mats
Typical Lifespan: 9-24 months
Semi-Temporary Coir Mats offer a perfect medium between long term control and short term straw mats. Featuring a blend of 70% wheat straw and 30% coconut fiber, these mats are able to offer an extended lifespan in a standard RECP design. Models include:
- Control Mat OCF 30: Mattress Coir stitched between two organic jute nets.
- Coir Straw Mat: 70% Wheat Straw and 30% Coconut Fiber, stitched between two synthetic nets.
Temporary Erosion Control Mats
Typical Lifespan: 6-9 months
One of the shortest term erosion control coir mats are ones made from wheat straw, jute, and/or excelsior wood materials. These erosion blankets typically last around 6 to 9 months and are used in level areas with low slopes or low water flows. Mats include:

Permanent Control Mats
For long term erosion control, we also offer a UV stabilized synthetic fiber mat (also known as a TRM) that contains heavy duty synthetic materials. Turf reinforcement mats are not biodegradable and should not be used in wetlands or environmentally sensitive areas.
