Coir Block | For Slope Stabilization And Streambank Restoration

Erosion Control Coir Block

Slope Stabilization, Streambank Restoration
and Stream Relocations

coir blocksThe Coir Block is a biodegradable erosion control system designed to help retain sediment and prevent erosion. Constructed entirely from natural, biodegradable coir, each block features a main bulk section and two layers of fabric (one bottom layer and one top layer). This combination of materials creates a reliable system that can support vegetative growth and help prevent erosion.

Design of the erosion control blocks features an interior block system that is 12" or 16" tall and made from densely packed mattress coir. Blocks are 10 feet in length and form a solid layer or row of support. Each block is then wrapped in a layer of woven coir fabric. Fabric is designed to cover 3 sides of the block, leaving the back end open for soil or dirt. This combination of strength and stability provides a consistent height on slopes, hills, banks, inlets or soil lifts.

Learn More about the Erosion Control Block

coir blocksThe erosion control block has been frequently used in a range of erosion control projects, bioengineering applications, and construction site areas. Some of the more common uses for these products include the following:

  • Landscaping
  • Stream Bank Restoration
  • Stream Re-locations
  • Slope Stabilization
  • Inlet Filtration
  • Soil Lifts

Benefits to Erosion Control Block Usage:

  • Helps with Fabric Wrapped Soil Layers
  • Longer Protection for Soil Wraps
  • Rectangular Shape Provides Better Soil Support
  • Reduced Installation Time & Project Costs

When using these blocks, multiple units are often placed together to create one long block that is able to stretch along the entire shoreline, slope or river bank. When connecting the blocks, each unit typically features a male side and a female side. To connect the blocks, the male side of one block can be connected to the female side of the adjacent block. This setup is repeated throughout the entire length of the area.

For increased connection and stabilization, extended coir block fabric can be placed on top of the blocks to create a long, stable structure. This setup also helps to provide a consistent layer of height for soil lifts.
