Coconut Fiber for Erosion Control

Coir Logs

Coconut Coir Logs are a reliable erosion control product for any area dealing with stabilization or re-vegetation of hills, banks, shorelines and other erosion prone areas. Constructed from a mix of core fibers and coir twine netting, these logs can effectively keep soil in place against rain, runoff or other water flows.

Coir logs are often used on steep slopes or areas that have a high exposure to waves and currents. Their large diameters and increased strength have allowed them to be effectively used in restoration projects, stabilization and other erosion control areas.

How Coconut Fiber Logs Can Help You:

coir logsThe coconut fiber logs are designed to help withstand wave impact and stormwater sheetflow forces without deformation or loss of materials. This helps to ensure maximum erosion prevention, enhance plant growth, and increase microbial activity.

The coir fiber logs are also a great way to collect and hold mineral and organic particles, providing a stable substrate, and promoting root growth. Best of all, these logs slowly biodegrade to leave a self-maintaining erosion prevention system.

Where to Place a Coir Log:

  • In flowing water areas: Coir logs can be placed directly on the bank, often retaining fill material or securing new channel alignment.
  • In standing water: Coconut coir logs are placed offshore to break waves and encourage sedimentation and re-vegetation.

Coconut products such as blocks, logs, and mats are also recommended products for soil bio-engineering.
