Catch Basin Guard | Sediment and Oil Retention

Catch Basin Guard for Sediment

Stormwater Catch Basin Filters

Hello. I am looking for a catch basin guard for sediment. I require something that can specifically handle sediment or small solids. Do the drain guards with the X-tex material handle this type of material?

stormwater drainThank you for contacting us! Choosing a drain guard can depend on the type of material you are trying to contain and the type of drain you need to protect. Some drain guards are designed to fit neatly under the grate of a storm drain, while other guards feature a log structure for placement in front of curb drains.

Standard Witches Hat Guard

One of the most popular storm drain guards is the Standard Drain Guard. This containment device is designed to placed directly into a storm drain and secured through replacement of the storm drain grate. This drain guard is sometimes referred to as the witches hat because of its wide securing portion and slender catch area.

This drain guard is available in three standard designs: the oil and sediment model, the oil and sediment plus model, and the trash and debris model.

Oil & Sediment Model

drain guardThe oil and sediment is a standard multi-purpose guard that can successful absorb both oil and sediment. This drain guard is constructed from a non-woven polypropylene geotextile and is designed with following retention rates.

  • Dimensions: 48" L x 36" W x 18" H
  • Performance Max (oil): 0.87 gal of Oil
  • Performance Max (sediment): 40 lbs
  • Dimensions: 60" L x 60" W x 18" H
  • Performance Max (oil): 1.55 gal of Oil
  • Performance Max (sediment): 40 lbs

Oil & Sediment Plus Model

catch basin filter guardThe oil and sediment plus model is designed as a revision of the standard drain guard. This guard can be particularly useful to use if you require debris containment, but also a significant amount of oil retention.

When compared to the model shown above, the oil and sediment plus model features the X-tex strips you mentioned above. X-tex is an absorbent material that is designed for oil retention. While it could contain some sediment, it is typically used to absorb oil from water drains.

  • Dimensions: 48" L x 36" W x 18" H
  • Performance Max (oil): 1.38 gal of Oil
  • Performance Max (sediment): 40 lbs
  • Dimensions: 60" L x 60" W x 18" H
  • Performance Max (oil): 2.06 gal of Oil
  • Performance Max (sediment): 40 lbs

In addition to these, we also offer several other catch basin guard for sediment and oil retention that might be more effective in the retention of oil or debris. To view our complete selection of stormwater bmps, please check out the Stormwater BMP Main Page.
