Types of Oil Skimmers

Below you will find our selection of oil spill cleanup skimmers. All skimmers feature an oleophilic property that will allow skimmers to successfully absorb oil and chemicals, but not water. This increases the effectiveness of the skimmers for faster cleanup jobs.

Calm Water/Inshore Skimmers

Calm water/inshore skimmers are the perfect option for small lakes, ponds, industrial lagoons and other locations where water levels are calm and fairly shallow. These skimmers feature an interchangeable head to recover oil at different rates and water levels.

Industrial Rope Mop Oil Skimmers

The rope mop oil skimmer is perfect for use across cooling ponds, settling basin and sludge waste water lagoons. The rope mop skimmer performs well in challenging environments where floatable debris or broken ice are present. These units attract the oil and then squeeze the oil as the rope mechanism passes through collecting in a sump.

How an Oil Skimmer Works:

Oil spill cleanup skimmers operate by removing oil from the surface of water with its oleophilic disc, drum or brush. These parts constantly rotate and skim the surface of the water to collect oil or grease. As the drums rotate around, they will additionally come into contact with a scraper. The scraper removes the recovered oil off the drum and into a storage bank.

From here, collected oil is then pumped out of the area and into a separate on shore storage tank. Units are typically powered through hydraulic power, but can also be used with pneumatic (air) or electric power. Systems will commonly be connected either directly to the power system on the cleanup vessel or to a separate Hydraulic Power Pack.
